Dickson Housing Authority - Resident Edition - Vol. 1 | Edition 7
July 2022

A Word From Our Executive Director

Residents,

As some of you have already realized, the Covid Rent Relief Payments have reached resident accounts. We encourage everyone to keep up with their balance in order to avoid late fees and other penalties. We recommend making an account in the "Online Payment" portal on our website (DicksonHousing.org) to avoid having to call the office each month for a balance. Any balance with a (-) in front of it is a credit on your account.

We have also been notified that a second round may be happening in the near future. If we need new signatures or information, or you did not sign up before, we will notify you. Otherwise, we will be able to use the information that we previously collected.

Last year, many new parking places were included in our reconstruction projects. These spots should be utilized fully-especially along Martin Luther King Blvd in front of units 22-25. There should also be no parking on the side of the street along East Railroad. If you have an extra vehicle, please use the parking lot across the street labeled for Dickson Housing Residents.

Sincerely,
Sherry Lynch
Executive Director

Maintenance Emergency

If you have an emergency and it's during office hours please call the office before calling maintenance.

  • Spread the Word: Applications are now being accepted online ONLY. The kiosk in the front lobby will also allow individuals to apply on-site.
  • Pools: As the weather gets warmer, remember pools are not to be left outside unattended. Pools must be emptied every day. If left out overnight or unattended, maintenance will remove them from the property. NO POOLS LARGER THAN 5 FT IN DIAMETER!
  • DHA Pool Party: Our DHA Summer Pool Party will be July 18th at Buckner Pool 6-8 pm. All DHA residents are welcome. You MUST be signed up with Tracy for a complete head count by July 15th. 615-446-9766

Maintenance

  • Trash!! If your trash does not fit in your trash can, do not set it on the ground. Cumberland Disposal will NOT pick it up. Do not store trash on your porches. If it doesn't fit, take it to one of the city trash receptacles.
  • Outside of Units!! There should be NOTHING stored outside of your unit other than lawn furniture and grills. Mattresses, old tires, bikes, toys, tarps, wagons, trash, etc. should not be stored on the porch or in the yard. Use your storage rooms or get rid of these items.
  • Trash Cans!! There is a Cumberland Disposal trash can issued to every unit. Look on the inside lid to find your unit number. After trash has been picked up, please return YOUR can to your unit.
  • Plants!! Any plants potted/planted in the yard must be weeded and kept up by the resident. Solar lights must be maintained, as well. If not, they will be removed. Before planting, you must speak to management first.
  • Pets!! We are having a major issue with pet waste in the yards. If you have a pet, you signed a pet agreement that states that you are responsible for cleaning this up. Our staff does not want to step in waste and then track it into your apartment, our office, etc. If this continues to be a problem, pet fees will increase.
  • Leashes!! Your pets are to be on a leash when outside. If they are tethered, they MUST be supervised. When finished with the leash/chain, do not leave it on the ground. These can cause serious damage to mowers/weed eaters. If we pick it up, it will be discarded.
  • Close storm doors!! It's that time of the year again - windy season - Please do not leave storm doors propped open. The wind will damage the closer and you could be charged.

July's Recipe-Easy, Quick, BBQ Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken
  • 1 tsp cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce

Directions

  1. If using breasts, pound them to an even thickness to ensure quick and even cooking.
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and season both sides of the chicken with the blend.
  3. Heat skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add oil and swirl to coat the surface of the skillet. Add seasoned chicken and cook on each side until browned and cooked thoroughly.
  4. Turn off heat, brush both sides with BBQ sauce and let rest 5 minutes before serving to allow sauce to soak in.

Summer Fun And Pool Safety

During the summer months, we all want to be outside, enjoying the sun, and making memories. However, we want these experiences to be as joyful and accident free as possible. Remember these tips while enjoying your summer – especially throughout our neighborhoods.

AT HOME: When around ANY water, keep an eye on your children. Leaving them alone or getting distracted for a second can be catastrophic. Do not allow them to put their heads under the water or to lay down. Pay attention to toys in the pool/water toys that do not float can be a fall hazard.

POOL SIDE: Obey pool rules-walk slowly in the pool area, make your children swim at a depth that is safe for them. If they are just learning to swim, make them stay in the shallow end. No horse playing – you could accidentally hurt someone or yourself. No chewing gum or eating while you swim – you could choke, and use plastic instead of glassware.

OUTSIDE: Do not allow your children to ride their bikes in the road or parking lots. Children do not have fast reflexes to move out of the way and some may be too small for drivers to see between cars, with other children, etc.

Be mindful of the temperatures. Children may suffer from heat exhaustion faster than adults because it is harder for them to notice warnings. Wear sunscreen and insect repellent anytime you are outside. Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water and clear liquids. Sodas and sugary drinks can dehydrate you faster.
